A class action has been filed against Sony Corporation of America, Inc., Sony Electronics, Inc., and Sony Corporation relating to Sony Grand WEGA KDF-E A10 and A20 Series LCD Rear Projection HDTV Televisions. The suit is pending before the Honorable Thomas J. Whelan in the United States District Court, Southern District of California.

The lawsuit alleges that the televisions possess an inherent defect in a component known as the "Optical Block" which causes bright blue, yellow and green haze, blobs, spots, and stains and other video anomalies to be displayed across their screens, rendering these very expensive televisions essentially useless. Sony has been unable or unwilling to permanently repair this problem, which has recurred for many consumers - sometimes after numerous "fixes."
